Shad Derby Parade--Saturday, May 20, 2017
Who doesn't love a parade?? WWRX wants our swimmers and their families to join the fun by marching in the Shad Derby Parade!! The Parade is the highlight of the Shad Derby Festival, and is run by the Windsor Jaycess (sponsors of the WWRX Swim-A-Thon 2016). Meeting time is 10:30 AM at Windsor High School, parade starts at 11:30 sharp.
The parade route is one mile long; it begins at the Windsor High School, leaving at 11:30 AM. The parade will turn right onto Capen Street, then left on to Broad Street, proceeding through the center of town, passing through the festivities on the Town Green.
The Shad Derby Festival is a long standing New England Tradition. The tradition began in 1955 with an annual fishing tournament to raise awareness of the growing pollution of the Connecticut River. In 1966, as the Derby grew in size, a parade and festivities on the Windsor Town Green were added to celebrate and commemorate the Shad Derby Festival and promote the best of the local area through its many resources, business and organizations.
